What this amendment would do

  • Mr. Van Hollen submitted amendment SA 249 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025.

  • The amendment adds a new section to title III creating a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to increasing funding for public education.

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.

  • It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.

  • These changes apply to legislation relating to protecting the rights of students, which may include increasing funding for public education, by the end of fiscal year 2034.

  • The adjustments are allowed only if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
