What this amendment would do
Mr. Van Hollen submitted amendment SA 243 to be proposed for the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 7, which sets the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and the budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a new section that creates a point of order in the Senate against any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that would cut funding to Medicare or Medicaid benefits.
To bypass this rule and waive or suspend it, the amendment requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn. Additionally, overriding a ruling of the Chair regarding this point of order also requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn.
