What this amendment would do
Mr. Van Hollen submitted amendment SA 238 to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and setting forth appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
Purpose of the Amendment
The purpose of this amendment is to hold the line on student loan help for the people who work for our federal government. It aims to add a new point of order in the Senate against any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that reduces student loan forgiveness for Federal employees.
To get around this rule and pass something that reduces this loan forgiveness, it would take a three-fifths affirmative vote of the Senators duly chosen and sworn. That same three-fifths vote would also be required to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order.
