What this amendment would do
-
The amendment changes section 7(f) of the bill, which deals with the preservation of State law.
-
It aims to make sure that nothing in the Act limits a State's authority to enact, adopt, promulgate, and enforce any statute, regulation, or interpretation, unless it directly clashes with the Act.
-
It clarifies that a State law is not inconsistent with the Act if it gives customers greater protection than what the Act provides.
-
It allows the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection to decide if a State law clashes with the Act, either on their own or because an interested person filed a nonfrivolous petition.
