What this amendment would do
-
Submitted by Mr. Hawley and Mr. Blumenthal, this amendment is intended to be proposed to the bill S. 1582, which provides for the regulation of payment stablecoins and for other purposes.
-
The amendment aims to add and redefine terms in section 2 of the bill by making several specific changes, such as redesignating various paragraphs.
-
It adds a definition for an excluded large online platform, which means a social media platform, an online search engine, an online marketplace, or an online communication platform that averages more than 25,000,000 unique users on a monthly basis, or has more than 25,000,000 user accounts.
-
The definition of an excluded large online platform also includes all parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates of the platform, but it does not include a platform that only permits users to interact via a predetermined set of phrases, emoticons, or nonlinguistic symbols.
-
It adds definitions for other terms, including an online communication platform, an online marketplace, an online search engine, and a social media platform.
