What this amendment would do
As folks who care about keeping our elected officials honest, we need to know what they are investing in. This amendment, submitted by Mr. Schiff to the bill S. 1582, is all about making sure our leaders are transparent about their digital money.
The purpose of this amendment is to add payment stablecoins to the financial disclosures that officials already have to make. Instead of hiding these digital assets, officials will be required to come clean to the public.
Here is what it aims to change or add to the bill:
-
Adds payment stablecoins right alongside commodities futures in the reporting rules.
-
Requires reporting individuals to list the identity and category of value for any payment stablecoins they issued, purchased, sold, or held during the past calendar year.
-
Updates the law's references so these new stablecoin disclosures are officially included in the required tracking and public reporting processes.
