What this amendment would do

Mr. Reed, along with Mr. Heinrich, submitted SA 2224 to be proposed for the bill S. 1582, which is about regulating payment stablecoins. Common sense tells us we need to keep a close eye on how our elected officials handle the laws that affect everyday folks.

The Purpose and Changes

The purpose of this amendment is to add a prohibition on changes to Medicare and Medicaid in reconciliation.

To do this, it updates Section 310(g) of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 by adding the Medicare and Medicaid programs right alongside Social Security.

It changes the subsection heading to include Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
It adds specific rules so that recommendations cannot touch the Medicare program or the Medicaid program.
