What this amendment would do
Mr. Coons submitted this amendment, numbered SA 202, to the concurrent resolution for the Congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 and levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
Its Purpose
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting the sensitive personal data of United States citizens against disclosure to unauthorized individuals.
Changes to the Bill
The amendment adds a new section at the end of title III. This addition allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.
These revisions and adjustments can be made for legislation relating to data privacy, as long as that legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034. Specifically, this data privacy legislation may include ensuring the protection of sensitive personal information of United States citizens held by the Federal Government by preventing individuals without proper authority from accessing systems used to store such data.
