What this amendment would do

Mr. Gallego submitted this amendment to the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025. As folks who elect these officials, we need to know where their priorities lie. This amendment adds a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the bill.

What It Aims to Change or Add

  • It aims to make sure that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement focuses its limited resources on detaining and removing illegal immigrants who have been convicted of violent crimes or who pose a threat to public safety or national security.

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change certain budget allocations and adjustments.

  • It ensures that any legislation passed for this purpose will not increase the federal deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
