What this amendment would do

Mr. Gallego submitted an amendment, known as SA 183, which deals with our Federal wildland fire management. The main purpose is to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund that can be used to address wildland fire management, which may include increasing wildland firefighter retention through improved salary and benefits.

What It Changes or Adds to the Bill

  • Adds a new section to the end of title III regarding a deficit-neutral reserve fund for Federal wildland fire management.
  • Allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels in the resolution.
  • Permits adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to Federal wildland fire management.
  • Requires that any legislation using these funds must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
