What this amendment would do

Ms. Duckworth submitted SA 179, which is an amendment intended to be proposed to the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 7 for the fiscal year 2025 budget. Put simply, this amendment creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund to make sure our folks serving our country overseas are taken care of.

The Purpose of the Amendment

The main goal is to hold our leaders accountable for protecting United States Government employees who are serving overseas. It aims to add a section to the budget resolution that allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations and make adjustments for legislation relating to protecting these personnel.

What It Adds to the Bill

This addition sets aside a way to fund legislation that would provide medical and emergency evacuation services to United States personnel serving overseas and their families. This includes those suffering health emergencies or those serving on behalf of the Department of State or the United States Agency for International Development.

  • The key rule here is that this funding must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
