What this amendment would do
As folks working for you in Congress, we need to keep an eye on how our tax dollars and rules affect everyday people—especially the brave men and women who served our country and now find themselves without a home.
Ms. Hirono submitted SA 157, which proposes adding a new section to the 2025 congressional budget resolution.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund. In plain English, this gives the Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee the power to change budget numbers and rules for future legislation without increasing the national deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
The amendment aims to change the budget so that Congress can pass laws protecting homeless veterans. Specifically, it ensures that programs like the Department of Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem, Supportive Services for Veteran Families, HUD-VASH, and Health Care for Homeless Veterans are protected.
- The amendment aims to make sure these vital homelessness programs are not impacted, reduced, or restricted.
- It protects these programs from being harmed by policies that terminate diversity, equity, and inclusion policies related to hiring, funding, contracting, compliance, education, and the provision of services.
