What this amendment would do

MR. LUJAN submitted amendment SA 1238 to the bill S. 331. The purpose of this amendment is to add a section called the KID PROOF PILOT PROGRAM to the bill.

This amendment aims to change the bill by allowing the Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use to carry out a pilot program. Under this program, competitive awards would be made to eligible entities to prevent or reduce the risk of suicide and drug overdose by children, adolescents, and young adults.

To make sure our elected officials are held accountable, it is important to know what this added program will actually do using the funds:

  • Implement evidence-based practices to prevent or reduce the risk of overdose and suicide among children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Promote education and awareness among parents or legal guardians on relevant best practices.
  • Provide appropriate supplies to parents or legal guardians to prevent or reduce the risk of the misuse of lethal means commonly used in overdose or suicide.
