What this amendment would do
As folks looking out for everyday Americans, we need to know what our elected officials are trying to do with our budget process. Mr. Coons submitted an amendment, numbered SA 1209, which deals with presidential eligibility.
What the amendment aims to change or add
-
It adds a new section to title III regarding a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to presidential eligibility.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make changes to committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels.
-
It allows these adjustments for legislation relating to recognizing that, under the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, President Donald J. Trump may not be elected to serve a third term as President of the United States.
-
It requires that any such legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
