What this amendment would do
Mr. Booker submitted amendment SA 1195 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025 through 2034. The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to prohibiting federal funding for private, for-profit detention centers.
This amendment aims to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to revise allocations and make adjustments for legislation relating to human rights. Specifically, this can include prohibiting the Department of Homeland Security from entering into or extending any contract or agreement with any public or private for-profit entity that owns or operates a detention facility to detain aliens in their custody, as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit from fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
