What this amendment would do

As folks who put these officials in office, we need to know what they are trying to do with our money and our government. Mr. Peters submitted SA 1184, which is an amendment about setting up a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to the fair administration of disaster aid.

The purpose of this amendment is to let the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget make changes to certain budget levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger. This can happen for bills or other measures that deal with effective disaster response.

Specifically, the amendment aims to add a rule ensuring that Federal disaster aid cannot be delayed or withheld because of the political affiliation of a State, organization, or individual.

To make sure we are not sticking future generations with a bigger bill, this is tied to a deficit-neutral approach. That means any legislation handled this way cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
