What this amendment would do
Mr. Peters submitted this amendment, numbered SA 1183, to be proposed for the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 7, which sets the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
What It Aims to Change or Add
The amendment aims to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to preventing billionaires from using government positions for personal gain at the end of title III.
Specifically, it allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to ethics in government.
This applies to legislation ensuring that each special Government employee with a net worth of more than $1,000,000,000 must complete a public financial disclosure form. They must also divest stock or themselves of any position in any company that does business with the government. Alternatively, any companies associated with such special government employees will be barred from contracting with the government.
These changes can only happen if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
