What this amendment would do
Mr. Peters submitted amendment SA 1182 to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to ensuring that the United States automotive industry can outcompete automakers backed by the Government of the People's Republic of China.
It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger. This applies to legislation relating to ensuring that the United States automotive industry can outcompete automakers backed by the Government of the People's Republic of China.
Specifically, the legislation can include:
- Supporting incentives for vehicles made in the United States
- Working closely with allies and trade partners like Canada
- Taking action to limit the importation of vehicles from companies backed by the People's Republic of China
These changes are allowed provided that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
