What this amendment would do
Mr. Bennet submitted this amendment to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government.
The purpose of the amendment is to change the rules for when Senate committees must submit their recommendations to the Committee on the Budget. It adds a new exception that blocks the Committee on Finance and the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry from submitting their recommendations until the Director of the Congressional Budget Office provides a specific certification.
Specifically, the amendment aims to add a requirement that the Director of the Congressional Budget Office must certify either that the recommendations will reduce the public debt to no more than 95 percent of the gross domestic product by 2034, or that a law has been enacted that reduces the debt burden on future generations without jeopardizing the health of the people of the United States.
