What this amendment would do
Mr. Booker put forward SA 1097 to be looked at for the Senate budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. As folks we vote into office make decisions, it is our job to keep an eye on them and make sure they are straight with us. This amendment is about setting up a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to doing no harm to children.
What It Aims to Change
- The Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate is allowed to change certain budget allocations and adjustments.
- These changes are for legislation dealing with doing no harm to children.
- This can include things like increasing childhood hunger or poverty through changes to program eligibility for children, foster youth, homeless youth, or primary caregivers.
- The affected programs include the supplemental nutrition assistance program, Medicaid, childcare subsidies, or other Federal programs.
- There is a strict rule attached: the legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2029 or fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
