What this amendment would do
As folks who pay attention to how our tax dollars and roads are handled, here is the plain truth about what Senator Warren's amendment tries to do. The amendment sets up a point of order in the Senate, which is basically a stop sign against certain types of legislation.
How It Holds Officials Accountable
This rule aims to block any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that reduces the amount of budget authority available for Department of Transportation programs funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. It applies to both the current fiscal year and future fiscal years.
The Rules For Overriding It
If lawmakers want to push a bill through that cuts this transportation funding anyway, they cannot just do it easily. It takes a three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn to either waive this rule or to win an appeal against the Chair's ruling.
