What this amendment would do
- What it does: Ms. Warren submitted SA 1073 to set up a new rule in the Senate.
- The goal: It creates a point of order against any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that fails to lower grocery costs.
How It Works
- Stopping the vote: If legislation does not lower grocery costs, a Senator can object to it.
- Overriding the rule: To bypass this rule and pass the legislation anyway, it takes a three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn.
- Appealing the Chair: If the Chair makes a ruling on this point of order, it also takes a three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn to sustain an appeal against that ruling.
