What this amendment would do
Mr. Schumer submitted amendment SA 1039 to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
Purpose and Changes
The purpose of this amendment is to hold officials accountable by making it out of order in the Senate to consider any legislation that includes cuts to programs benefiting United States firefighters.
- Specifically, it targets programs such as the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant Program.
- To bypass this rule, a three-fifths affirmative vote of the chosen and sworn Members of the Senate is required to waive or suspend the point of order.
- The same three-fifths affirmative vote is also required to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on this point of order.
