What this amendment would do
Ms. Rosen submitted SA 1032 to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
Purpose and Changes
The purpose of this amendment is to add a new point of order to the budget resolution. Common sense tells us that we need to keep our priorities straight, and this amendment aims to block any legislation or related measure in the Senate that would divert Federal immigration enforcement resources away from targeting serious criminals, murderers, drug traffickers, and human traffickers by targeting law-abiding immigrants.
If someone tries to push a measure that does this, any Senator can raise a point of order against it. To get around this rule and pass such a measure anyway, it would take a three-fifths vote of all the Senators chosen and sworn. It would also take that same three-fifths vote to overturn a ruling by the Chair regarding this point of order.
