What this amendment would do
-
This amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations and make adjustments for legislation dealing with veterans and service members.
-
The goal is to protect certain noncitizen veterans and service members who have not been convicted of a crime of violence from immigration enforcement actions.
-
It also aims to allow removed veterans who have not been convicted of a crime of violence to be admitted back into the United States, have their status adjusted to lawful permanent resident, and become eligible for all military and veteran benefits they would have had if they had not been removed.
-
Any legislation using this fund must not increase the deficit over the fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
