What this amendment would do
Mr. Murphy submitted an amendment, designated as SA 68, to the bill S. 5. The bill requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to take into custody aliens who have been charged in the United States with theft.
The amendment aims to change the bill in a few specific ways:
-
It adds a new subsection label for general application.
-
It changes the requirements so that the rules apply specifically to an individual who is 14 years of age or older.
-
It adds a Special Rule stating that nothing in the Act or its amendments may be construed to supersede or modify the Stipulated Settlement Agreement filed in Reno v. Flores on January 17, 1997, or any subsequent court decisions related to that agreement.
