What this amendment would do
This amendment is known as the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act. Its main purpose is to put strict rules in place regarding immigration enforcement actions at or near certain sensitive places.
The amendment aims to add new rules to the Immigration and Nationality Act. Specifically, it defines what a sensitive location is, which includes physical space within 1,000 feet of places like medical facilities, schools, places of worship, courthouses, shelters, and public assistance offices.
It changes the law by prohibiting immigration officers and agents from carrying out enforcement actions at these sensitive locations unless there are exigent circumstances or they have prior approval from specific high-ranking officials. If an action happens anyway and breaks these rules, the amendment allows the affected individual to file a motion to immediately end their removal proceedings, and blocks any information gathered from being used as evidence.
