What this amendment would do
As folks working for you in Congress, we need to keep a close eye on what our officials are trying to change. Ms. Hirono submitted amendment SA 33 to the bill S. 5, which originally requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to take into custody certain aliens charged with theft in the United States.
-
This amendment aims to add exceptions to the bill's rules.
-
It states that the custody requirement and state enforcement rules will not apply to individuals who arrived in the United States before the age of 16.
-
It also adds an exception for individuals who were granted relief under the deferred action for childhood arrivals program (known as the DACA program).
